Finding the Limits

That lazy morning I was looking for yesterday?  I found it today.  Bliss.

Anya came over at 11:00 for English lesson (which has become my appointed time for grocery store run), then we all went out for lunch.  We went to this wonderful Ukrainian restaurant that the Warners suggested, about two blocks away.  I loaded up on traditional Ukrainian foods, some of which I hadn't tried before.  I really liked the Honey Kvass.  It's a lightly fermented drink made from bread.  I've since googled it and it seems kvass can be wonderfully refreshing, like I experienced, or downright nasty.  Borscht, made with goose, tasted fantastic on this clear, cold day.  After lunch we went on a long walk in search of gloves for the boys, stopping at a couple of playgrounds along the way.  I didn't realize how much this walk would wear them out.  Isaac really wanted to take the bus back to the apartment, but since I'd already insisted we walk, I didn't want to give in.  He protested the whole walk back, but I'm not sure how much was for real and how much was just playing around.  He has a very sharp sense of humor.  Poor Eli didn't say a word but almost had to crawl up the stairs to the apartment.  I think I pushed a little too hard today...now I know.  These boys are active, but need to build up some endurance.

I think I've mentioned before that Eli really likes music.  A few times I've found him pretending to play guitar.  Through Anya we discussed the possibility of taking guitar lessons once we settle in back at home.  He really likes that idea.  We may have another musician in the family.  Isaac?  Not interested. :)

So on we go with our nightly routine.  Eat, watch an English movie together on the laptop, bath time, eat again, lotion each other's hands and feet while watching a few minutes of local tv, then to bed.  Boys boys are very ticklish; Isaac exceptionally so.  I'm guessing there are some sensory issues since he likely hasn't had the proper safe touch that parents give.  Putting any pressure on his feet sends him into hysterical laughter.  Even so, he enjoys the lotion routine, and likes for me to rub his back, most of the time.

They have learned to love the tucking into bed ritual, and will sometimes tuck each other in, too.  :)

Tomorrow is a big day.  Anya and Den will take us to Enakievo where we will meet with the inspector and some other officials.  I am not looking forward to it, but it will help us move onward, so here we go.

  1. Oh Jocelyn, Love going to the inspector ... her name is Galina. She helped us get Zhayne after his little sister refused to come. PLEASE tell her that Karol, Ed and Zhayne say hello. I usually send her a photo album of all the children with a little note on how they are doing. She sits and crys over the pictures. She LOVES these children and loves knowing how they are doing. It is her goal also to send them to loving parents and not allow them to grow up in an orphanage. Please know that we will be praying for you and the boys and the meeting. karol

  2. Hi Karol! I got to meet Galina last week--she is very special. This will be a formal meeting, with the boys, so that a fair assessment of the boys' situation can be made. They won't be able to officially break the family, but it will give us good ammunition to take to the judge. I will certainly send your greetings to Galina today!
